I grew up with the golden rule, “do unto others that you would have them do to you.”
I thought it was kind of ridiculous. Life was not kind to me as a child, yet I was still expected to live by that rule. I had a child’s mind and I just didn’t get it.
Now, I understand that I needed to have those lessons to prepare me for a incredible life. I wouldn’t be able to have the compassion, understanding and love that I have now . . . if it weren’t for those ugly times.
Namaste is to see the light of God in me as well as you. It is so much easier to see the light in someone else. We always think that the grass is greener,
we discover that the divine in me is the same as the divine in you. We are all interconnected. One life on this earth, is not more or less important than another. To live in that space of love for your every living things is beautiful. It dissolves boundaries.
If I had to write the golden rule again I would say:
Be the love to others that you want to receive.
The philosopher Rumi says “what you seek is really seeking you.” What we put into the world we get back. When we see the light in someone else we also invite them to see the light in us.
Be the light.
